What is Chyawanprash?
Also known as Chyavanprash or Chawanprash, it is an ancient Ayurvedic preparation. The original formulas included about 50 ingredients, many of which are now endangered and unavailable. Ours has about 30 ingredients, all organic. To respect these formulas, we call ours 21st Century Chyawanprash™.
We are doing our part to keep it sustainable by supporting organizations like United Plant Savers, who work hard to protect endangered medicinal plants so that the 22nd century formula won't have even fewer ingredients.
History of Chyawanprash
Different ancient Indian texts such as the Mahabharata, Puranas, and others recount the tale of the Ashvin twins, revered as the royal physicians to the Devas during the Vedic era. It is said that they initially crafted the formulation for Chyavana Rishi to increase his immunity, stamina, and longevity at his Ashram located on Dhosi Hill near Narnaul, Haryana, India, thus giving rise to the name Chyavanprash. The earliest recorded recipe for Chyawanprash is found in the Charaka Samhita, an ancient Ayurvedic text dating back to the early first millennium BCE.
Suggested use
1-2 tsp, 1-2 times a day or as directed. For a delicious treat, spread this herbal jam on toast or a cracker, alone or alongside your favorite nut butter.
Chyawanaprash jam offers a unique blend of sweet and sour flavors simultaneously. Its taste profile is predominantly characterized by the richness of honey, ghee (clarified butter), and amla, while its aroma is defined by the fragrance of ghee and a medley of spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger.
Given that taste holds significant importance in the digestive process, signaling the body to activate its supportive mechanisms, Ayurveda traditionally advocates for tasting herbs. Chyavanprash, serving as a delectable jam, not only delights the palate but also provides users with a complete taste experience, thereby boosting its effectiveness.
While some prefer to lick this Ayurvedic herbal jam directly from the spoon, viewing it as a nutritious sweet treat, there are numerous other enjoyable and flavorful methods to incorporate this formula into your routine.
Chyawanprash can be stirred into warm tea, milk, or water to create a tasty and nourishing beverage. You can top your favorite warm cereal oatmeal with it. Or, you can treat it like any other jam and spread it on toast, crackers, or muffins. I sometimes even add a thin layer of it into my grilled cheese sandwiches.
