We are really excited to offer you this organic henna powder. Henna is an all-natural plant-based dye, which stains the skin or hair a shade of red/brown. The shade of the stain depends on numerous factors including your individual body chemistry, placement, aftercare, and the formulation of the henna paste.

The use of henna powder for hair is truly ancient, dating back to 1200 BC where it was used in Egypt as a dye for hair and nails. It is believed that Cleopatra used it as part of her beauty regimen. Most of us are familiar with henna’s use as a natural hair dye and botanical skin-paint that is skillfully applied to our hands, arms and feet - just like a beautiful bride in an Indian wedding ceremony. Henna is cultivated in drier, tropical climates around the world including India where it is known as Mehndi in the Hindi language.

Henna Powder For Skin Temporary Tattoo

In a non-metal bowl, combine desired amount of organic henna powder with a little water at a time to form a thick smooth paste. For a darker color, add 1-2 tsp amla powder, black tea, apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice. Cover bowl and store at room temp for 4+ hrs. Color deepens with more time.

Aftercare instructions

Let the henna dry, being very careful not to touch it while it sets. Do not cover with clothing and avoid water while the paste is on your skin. Seal the henna with a mixture of lemon juice and sugar. Lightly dab with a cotton ball to make it just wet enough not to crack and flake. The goal is to leave it on your skin as long as possible. At least 4-6 hours is recommended. Seal with the lemon juice and sugar 2-3 times in the first hour. Heat will also help seal the stain. Use a hair dryer on low to heat the stain. To remove, use a credit card, butter knife or your hand. For larger designs, soften in the shower under water and use a card to scrape it from your skin. Rinse gently. Do not use soap. Do not scrub. Stain takes up to 3 days to oxidize and darken on skin.

Henna Powder For Hair Color

For a natural black hair dye, organic henna powder must be applied first and organic indigo powder applied within 72 hours of completing henna application. Without applying indigo, the henna will dye your hair a shade of reddish brown, depending on your natural hair color.

Step 1: Apply Henna

Begin with clean, dry hair. Gradually add warm or hot water, 1-2 tsp of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice or green tea to desired amount of organic henna powder to form a thick, smooth paste. Cover and let this sit for 2-3 hours. The longer it sits, the darker the color. Add a little more water if it seems too thick. Section hair; apply with gloves working from the roots to the ends. Cover hair for 3-4 hours. Rinse with cool water until water runs clear.

Step 2: Apply Indigo

Gradually add warm or hot water to desired amount of indigo powder along with 1 tsp salt and 2 tsp cornstarch to make a thick, smooth paste. Cover and let it sit for 20 minutes. Add a little more water if it seems too thick. Section hair; apply with gloves working from the roots to the ends. Cover hair several hours to overnight. Rinse with cool water until water runs clear. Don’t shampoo for 2-3 days as the color can take a couple of days to fully settle.
