Papain is a cysteine endopeptidase extracted from unripe papaya latex. As a protease, it cleaves peptide bonds throughout protein chains — particularly at sites following arginine and lysine residues — breaking down dietary proteins into smaller peptides and free amino acids that are more readily absorbed in the small intestine. This action is most effective in the acidic environment of the stomach (pH 3–6), making it a natural complement to the body's own gastric proteases (pepsin). Amylase cleaves alpha-1,4-glycosidic bonds in starch, converting complex carbohydrates into maltose and dextrins for efficient energy utilization. Together, the enzymes support more complete digestion of proteins and carbohydrates — particularly useful after heavy meals, for those with reduced gastric acid production, or for anyone who experiences digestive discomfort after eating. The chewable format allows some enzyme activity to begin in the mouth and esophagus before reaching the stomach. 600 tablets provides approximately 100–200 days of daily support.
