Costa Rica Romelia — SHB EP Tarrazú Highlands
Air Roasted • Honeyed • Mountain-Grown Elegance
Costa Rica Romelia SHB EP comes from the misty Palmichal rainforest region, bordering the historic coffee lands of Tarrazú, an area celebrated for its vibrant acidity and exceptionally clean cup profile. Grown along the western slopes of the Escazú Mountains at elevations between 1,500-1,900 meters, this coffee benefits from cool mountain air, volcanic soils, and slow cherry maturation which helps develop layered sweetness and clarity.
The story of Romelia traces back to pioneer coffee grower Manuel Rojas Arias, who introduced coffee cultivation to Palmichal in the early 1900s. His success inspired neighboring farmers to transition from sugar cane to coffee production, helping shape the region’s identity. After his passing, the farms were entrusted to his sister, Doña Romelia, whose perseverance preserved the quality and legacy behind the name. Manuel Rojas also founded Beneficio Palmichal in 1933. This mill that quickly became known for processing some of Costa Rica’s highest-quality SHB coffees.
