The Guardian Bee Hive Upper Entrance is a patented hive entrance system developed to help reduce small hive beetle intrusion. It works by masking round hive entrances and altering the physical structure of the opening, making it difficult for small hive beetles to navigate and enter the colony.

The Guardian is designed specifically for use over round entrance holes that are commonly drilled into the side of hive bodies or used as upper entrances. The physical edges of the entrance create a challenging surface for small hive beetles, while still allowing honey bees to move through the entrance normally.

In addition to the physical barrier, the Guardian incorporates red light technology. According to the manufacturer, red light has been shown to deter small hive beetles and interfere with their ability to invade colonies, adding another layer of protection at the entrance.
