Why Mylar

Oxygen is the number one cause of spoiling in freeze dried food. Oils in the food can auto-oxidize if there is even the smallest amount of oxygen leaking in. This auto-oxidation is also why it is so important to use oxygen absorbers.

We made these bags specifically for long term food storage in mind. The Mylar has a higher aluminum to plastic ratio that keeps oxygen from permeating the bag. The layer of aluminum was specifically made to 12 microns thick. This is enough to prevent smells from foods like onions from leaking out of the bag.  The bags are 7 mils thick which helps with small abrasions that could puncture thinner Mylar.

If you are putting food away for even a few months is pays to go with thicker Mylar. For just a few cents more per bag you will save the food from spoiling. Any bag with a clear front will simply not work for freeze dried food.  Trust us, we have tried it.

Other Methods

Another common packaging is canning jars. These work great to keep the shape of fruits for show pieces or for reusable access. The draw back to glass jars is that they can break and they are much heavier than Mylar bags. But they are reusable so that is a plus.

Our Mylar bags are free of BPA and other toxins.
