The deep box is where your queen lays eggs and the colony raises brood — it's the working center of the hive. This 10-frame cypress deep box gives her 9 5/8 inches of depth to fill with comb, and cypress holds up to years of outdoor weather better than pine without a coat of paint.

What You Get

  • 7/8" thick cypress boards — naturally rot-resistant, no paint required to hold up outdoors
  • Standard 10-frame Langstroth depth (9 5/8") — works with the deep boxes and frames you already own
  • Holds 10 deep frames and foundation, or doubles as spacer space above certain feeders (baggie, Boardman, some top feeders)
  • Assembled boxes are stapled at the joints, not just glued, so the box holds together under the weight of a full brood chamber
  • Choose unassembled if you want to build it yourself, assembled if you don't, or assembled and painted if you want it ready to go straight onto the hive

Cypress vs. Pine

We stock cypress instead of pine for a reason: cypress resists rot naturally, so an unpainted box still holds up season after season. Pine needs paint to survive outdoors — skip it, and it breaks down fast. Cypress costs a little more upfront, but you're not fighting rot in three years. If you want extra protection without painting, we also offer a wax dipping service for assembled boxes.

Seasonal Use

Add or replace deep boxes during spring buildup, when colonies expand fastest and need more brood space, or ahead of fall to make sure your bees have solid comb going into winter.
