The inner cover sits below the outer cover and above the top box, sized down to fit a 5-frame nuc. Without one, bees will glue the outer cover directly to the top frames with propolis, and you'll be prying it loose every time you check the box.

What You Get

  • Creates an air gap between the top box and outer cover, cutting down on condensation
  • Keeps bees from gluing the outer cover directly to your frames
  • Can double as a feeder access point on some setups
  • Fits standard 5-frame nuc equipment

Seasonal Use

Leave it on year-round. In cold weather, the air gap it creates helps manage moisture inside the nuc — trapped condensation dripping onto a small cluster is a bigger risk than cold on its own, especially in a box this size.
