Deep 9 1/8-Inch Langsroth Frame, Grooved Top / Grooved Bottom With Double Wax Foundation

Our Deep 9 1/8-Inch Langstroth Frames are carefully built to give both bees and beekeepers the strong foundation they need for brood rearing and honey production. Designed for easy use and durability, these frames maintain proper spacing inside the hive, ensuring bees have the natural “bee space” they prefer between combs. This spacing allows bees to build, store, and move efficiently while giving the beekeeper the ability to remove and inspect frames with ease.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Standard deep depth: 9 1/8-inch frame size for brood boxes and deep hive bodies.
  • 5-piece construction: Includes top bar, bottom bar, two sidebars, and a sheet of deep foundation.
  • Double wax coating: Extra layer of American beeswax encourages stronger and faster comb building.
  • Grooved top and bottom bars: Snap-in foundation design requires no tools or wedges.
  • Available assembled or unassembled: Assemble easily with glue, nails, or staples.
  • Bee-preferred spacing: Fits standard Langstroth deep boxes for consistent bee space.

Detailed Description

Each Deep 9 1/8-Inch Langstroth Frame includes five components — a top bar, bottom bar, two sidebars, and a deep foundation sheet — that fit securely together with glue, nails, or staples to create a sturdy frame ready for the hive. The flexible foundation snaps into the grooves on the top and bottom bars without the need for extra tools, making assembly fast and efficient. Once complete, each frame provides bees with the structure they need to draw out comb naturally and evenly.

These deep frames are most commonly used in brood boxes, where the queen lays eggs and the colony maintains its population throughout the year. The large surface area of the deep frame gives the queen more continuous laying space, while worker bees use the surrounding comb for brood and food storage during the winter.

Each frame is available unassembled or assembled. Unassembled frames can be easily put together using basic hand tools — a hammer, nails, and high-quality wood glue. Assembling your own frames allows for complete customization and ensures a secure fit. When ordered assembled, the frames are professionally glued, nailed, and fitted with the foundation, so they are ready for immediate use in the hive.

In 2015, we began offering foundation with double the beeswax coating compared to standard foundation found on the market, such as thinly coated Mann Lake plastic. Bees are naturally more attracted to this thicker coating of American beeswax, drawing comb faster and more evenly. Both our bees and our customers have seen the difference firsthand — bees simply prefer it.

The grooved top and bottom bars make installation of the foundation simple and secure. The foundation snaps firmly into place, held steady by the double grooves, which prevent shifting or bowing during use. This feature ensures smooth comb development and reliable performance during honey extraction or inspection.

For large-scale operations, bulk orders of 810 or more assembled frames are shipped via freight on a pallet, ensuring safe and efficient delivery.
