Deep 9 1/8 Inch Langstroth Frame, Wedged Top / Split Bottom with Holes

Our Deep 9 1/8 Inch Langstroth Frames are designed for both precision and practicality — meeting the natural needs of the bees and the working needs of the beekeeper. Inside the hive, bees maintain a specific distance between combs known as “bee space.” These frames are built to maintain that ideal spacing automatically when placed side by side in a hive box, allowing the bees to build comb efficiently while giving the beekeeper easy access for inspection and management.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Standard deep depth: 9 1/8-inch frame size for brood boxes and deep hive bodies.
  • 4-piece frame construction: Includes a wedged top bar, split bottom bar, and two sidebars with pre-drilled holes.
  • Foundation compatible: Fits 100% beeswax deep foundation with wires.
  • Easy to assemble: Requires only a hammer, nails, and quality wood-glue.
  • Added strength: Holes allow for optional horizontal wiring for comb support.
  • Bee-preferred spacing: Maintains the correct bee space between combs.

Detailed Description

Each Deep 9 1/8 Inch Langstroth Frame comes as a four-piece set — a wedged top bar, split bottom bar, and two sidebars with holes — that fit together securely using glue, nails, or staples. Once assembled, the frame provides a strong and reliable structure for the bees to draw out comb and for the beekeeper to inspect, extract, and manage the colony.

These deep frames are most commonly used in brood boxes, also called hive bodies, where the queen lays eggs and where the colony maintains its population through the year. The deeper frame gives the queen more continuous laying space on a single frame and provides ample area for developing brood and stored resources.

The wedged top bar features a removable wedge strip that holds wired beeswax foundation securely in place, while the split bottom bar allows the foundation to rest in the groove, preventing bowing or warping over time. This combination ensures straight, strong comb that’s easier to manage during inspections and extraction.

The sidebars include pre-drilled holes that allow for additional horizontal support wires to be threaded through the frame. These wires strengthen the foundation and help prevent comb collapse, especially when the frames are full of brood or heavy honey stores.

Each frame is sold unassembled, but assembly is straightforward and can be completed using standard tools found in every beekeeper’s workshop. Proper assembly and use of good-quality wood glue will ensure your frames hold up season after season without separating inside the hive.

These frames are designed to fit standard Langstroth deep boxes and are compatible with 100% beeswax deep foundation with wires, providing a natural and durable base for your bees to build upon.
