The L-17E targets noise-sensitive occupied facilities that also have access constraints preventing the L-19E, L-20E, or L-21E from reaching every zone. Hospitals with narrow patient wing corridors, hotels with tightly spaced room doors, corporate office buildings with dense cubicle aisles, and laboratories with fixed benching all present environments where the 17" footprint is the widest machine that fits. In these zones, a conventional 17" machine at 85–95 lbs still strips and scrubs, but with less downward force per pass. The L-17E at 99 lbs adds 4–14 lbs of machine weight over those alternatives, which translates directly to more effective single-pass scrubbing or stripping. Under-Apron Gearbox at 17" and Noise Reduction Mechanism

The Lo-Boy's gearbox is enclosed within the apron housing rather than mounted in the neck or handle column. In conventional floor machines, the gearbox sits above the pad assembly and vibration from the rotating gear sets couples to the metal handle frame, radiating noise upward and outward. Moving the gearbox below the apron deck eliminates that transmission path: the rotating mass stays enclosed in the lowest part of the machine, and the apron housing absorbs rather than amplifies vibration. At 17" — the smallest apron size in the Lo-Boy series — the acoustic enclosure is smaller than in the 19", 20", and 21" models, but the fundamental noise reduction mechanism is the same. For facilities that have tried conventional 17" machines and found the noise unacceptable during occupied hours, the L-17E provides the same pad width at measurably lower operating noise.
