The bottom board does three jobs at once: it forms the floor of the hive, it carries the weight of every box stacked above it, and — because this one's screened — it lets air move through the colony and lets mites that fall off bees drop out instead of climbing back up.

What You Get

  • Mesh floor improves airflow and moisture control inside the hive
  • Lets varroa mites that groom or fall off bees drop through instead of climbing back onto your bees
  • 7/8" cypress construction, naturally rot-resistant against ground moisture
  • Fits standard 10-frame Langstroth equipment

Screened vs. Solid

Screened boards are the more common choice — the airflow helps with moisture control in humid climates and gives you an easy way to eyeball mite drop without a full alcohol wash. If you're in a colder or drier climate and want more heat retention through winter, we also carry a solid bottom board.
